How big are the waves in Malta?

Firstly, let me address the misconception that Malta doesn't have good waves. While we might not have the world-renowned waves of Hawaii or Bali, we certainly have some great surf spots here on the island.

The size of the waves in Malta can vary, depending on the weather conditions. Typically, the waves here range from 2-6 feet, which is perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers. However, during the winter months, we do see some larger swells, which can produce waves up to 10 feet high.

One of the best things about surfing in Malta is that we have consistent waves throughout the year. This is largely due to the north-west wind, which is the most common wind direction here on the island. When this wind blows strong, it creates good waves on the north-west part of Malta, particularly in area of Għajn Tuffieħa.

At Malta Surf School, we take advantage of these conditions to provide our students with the best possible surfing experience. Our instructors have years of experience and are passionate about sharing their knowledge and love of the sport with others.

We offer a range of surf lessons, from beginner to advanced. Whether you're looking to catch your first wave or improve your technique, we've got you covered.

While the winter months tend to produce more consistent and larger waves, it is still possible to surf in Malta during the summer months as well. However, it's important to note that the conditions may not be as frequent or consistent as during the winter.

During the summer, the north-west wind is still the most common wind direction, which can create good waves on the north-west part of the island. However, these conditions may not occur as frequently as during the winter, and the waves may not be as big.

At Malta Surf School, we monitor the weather conditions closely to ensure that we provide our students with the best possible surfing experience. We take into account factors such as wind direction, wave height and swell period to determine the best time and location for our lessons.

So, whether you're visiting Malta during the winter or summer months, we've got you covered for a great surfing experience. Come and join us at Malta Surf School and discover the thrill of surfing in one of the most beautiful locations in the Mediterranean!
